PI’s Profile[Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad] The Principal Investigator of the Electric Vehicle Lab has extensive expertise in electric mobility and sustainable energy systems. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad is a Tenured Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. |
His research primarily focuses on nonlinear control systems, biomedical engineering, electric vehicles (EV), optimization, and hardware-in-the-loop simulations. Dr. Ahmad is at the forefront of advancing research in these areas at NUST, with key expertise in developing advanced control strategies for hybrid energy storage systems, renewable energy integration, and intelligent energy management systems. He has been cited over 2,000 times, reflecting his significant contributions to the field. Dr. Ahmad has successfully supervised numerous MS and PhD students, led several international collaborations, and completed multiple funded projects, demonstrating his remarkable ability in resource mobilization and research leadership.

Lab Capabilities
- Research and development of electric vehicle powertrains using nonlinear controllers, fuzzy logic controllers, artificial intelligence, ANN, RNN, RL
- EMS in Fuel cell based as well as plug-in HEVs
- Battery performance testing and lifecycle analysis
- Integration of EVs with renewable energy sources
- Energy management systems (EMS) and voltage regulation of DC bus for HEVs
- Wireless power transmission using nonlinear control and reinforcement learning

- “Pakistan’s First Indigenous Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charger" funded by NUST
- “Design, Fabrication and Control of VTOL Tilt-rotor Aerial Vehicle” funded by NESCOM
- “Modeling, Fabrication and control of Twin Rotor System” funded by NESCOM
- Failsafe Drone 2.9 Mil approved but in process from PMO (NESCOM) through DG & Director Projects
- Robust drone with indigenous pixhawk 1 mil from Pro-rector RIC (Co-PI)
