NUST and Jazz launch Pakistan’s first 5G Innovation Lab to explore potential use cases of 5G

Pakistan’s National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital operator, have partnered to launch Pakistan’s first 5G Innovation Lab at NUST. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by senior dignitaries, including Secretary IT Mr. Mohsin Mushtaq, SAPM on Youth Affairs, Ms. Shiza Fatima, Rector NUST, Lt Gen (Retd) Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, and CEO Jazz Mr. Aamir Ibrahim.

The 5G Innovation Lab is expected to leverage its high bandwidth, low latency, and advanced security to explore potential use cases of 5G in various fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Augmented/Virtual Reality, and Cloud-edge Computing applications in Education, Healthcare, Industry 4.0, Agriculture, Security, Disaster Management, and Entertainment.

“This lab will play a pivotal role in helping us build an ecosystem to explore 5G-enabled use cases in Agritech, EdTech, etc., while serving as a conduit for the interplay of technologies like Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Internet of Things, and Cybersecurity,” said Mr. Mohsin Mushtaq, Secretary IT.

CEO Jazz, Aamir Ibrahim, said the 5G Innovation Lab would provide researchers, entrepreneurs, and the academic world with a better understanding of the opportunities, value, and usefulness of 5G. The lab will spearhead the implementation of use cases for co-innovation ecosystem development.

The NUST Pro-Rector RIC Dr. Rizwan Riaz said the 5G Innovation Lab would strengthen and foster a collaborative and development-focused ecosystem with cutting-edge technology. He added that the lab would bring together visionary startups, industry leaders, technical experts, and investors for shared goals of advancement and growth.

The launch of Pakistan’s first 5G Innovation Lab is a significant achievement for the country, and it is expected to contribute to the development and growth of Pakistan’s economy. By exploring potential use cases of 5G in various fields, the lab will pave the way for innovation-driven economic development in Pakistan, making it a hub for technological advancements in the region.
